Organised Cycle Rides - Sunday 17th June 2018
Sunday Cycle Rides Programme
On Sunday 18th June there is a series of cycle rides out from the Warminster Town Park. These all start at 11am in the Warminster Town Park. Rides available are:
Hardcore Road Ride – 40 mile road ride at a reasonable pace - 14/15mph.
Easy Wheeler Road Ride – a fairly easy 27 miles ride with a stop-off at a cafe en route.
Family Ride – this is an easy ride for families with small children, tag-a-longs, trailers, etc. It is about 10 miles with a stop-off at a country pub for lunch.
MTB Ride – This will be around a circuit in the Longleat forest. It is not super hard but you will have the chance to go through various obstacles and discover some of the local Warminster single track. You can either go longer or shorter depending on how many times you run the circuit which is approximately 5 miles.
Hardcore MTB Ride - This is a 29 miles MTB trail ride.

General Safety Information
On all routes
- Always cycle with respect for others, whether other cyclists, pedestrians, people in wheelchairs, horse-riders or drivers and acknowledge those who give way to you.
- On shared paths
- Fit a bell and use it, do not surprise people
- Give way to pedestrians
- Slow down or stop if necessary
- Do not cycle at high speeds
- Be careful at junctions, bends and entrances
- Remember that many people are hard of hearing or visually impaired. Do not assume they can see or hear you
- Give way where there are wheelchair users and horse riders
- Always follow the Highway Code
- Fit cycle lights and use them in poor visibility
- Keep your bike roadworthy
- Be seen, most cycle accidents happen at junctions
- Do not cycle on pavements except where designated; pavements are for pedestrians
- Use you bell, not all pedestrians can see you
In the countryside
- Follow the Country Code
- Respect other land management activities such as farming or forestry
- Take litter home
- Keep erosion to a minimum if off-road
- Cycle within your capabilities
- Match your speed to the surface and your skills
- Be self-sufficient: carry food, bike repair kit, map and waterproofs in remote areas
Look after yourself and your bike!
- In poor light and at night, you should use front and rear bike lights (this is a legal requirement) and wear visible/reflective clothing.
- Cycle helmets are recommended and should fit you properly.
- You should have your bike serviced regularly at a professional bike shop to ensure it is roadworthy.
- If you are training for a cycling event, start gradually, particularly if you have not cycled before or for some time. Always stop if you feel sick or dizzy, over-tired or in pain and make sure you leave at least 30 minutes between eating and exercising.
