The stage winner and overall Tour winner, Annemiek van Vleuten of Movistar, withstood various attacks and six bike changes to take the final stage victory.

Her speedy performance saw her win in yellow atop La Super Planche des Belles Filles, and she beat Demi Vollering of Team SD Worx by 30 seconds.

Her ride is now the most kudoed women’s ride ever.

Van Vleuten posted a +3min QOM improvement for the last segment of the race and picked up most of the QOMs.

According to Strava, Van Vleuten was rolling at an average of at 17.7kmh for the 7.09km final climb, and her max cadence was 103rpm.

Vollering vs Van Vleuten

Notably Vollering, who was the overall polka dot jersey winner, posted a maximum speed of ‘only’ 77.2kmh and averaged 33.5kmh.

According to Strava, the Dutch rider managed an average of 17.3kmh for the final climb, just 0.4km/h behind Van Vleuten. Her max cadence was 109rpm.

Overall, Vollering finished 3 minutes and 48 seconds behind Van Vleuten in the general classification.

Vos vs Vollering

Interestingly, double stage winner and former race leader Marianne Vos of Jumbo-Visma hit a higher maximum speed than Vollering – 79kmh – but her average speed was lower at 31.7kmh as she crossed the line more than 13 minutes down.

Her average speed up La Super Planche des Belles Filles was also considerably slower than Vollering and Van Vleuten, at 13.2kmh.

However Vos was, of course, an emphatic winner in the points classification.
